Black lentils have a rich, nutty flavor, and many cooks consider them the best lentil around. They have thicker shells than most lentils, so they hold their shape when cooked instead of turning into a mush.
Our organic black lentils are a fantastic choice on the nutritional front, too. They’re full of protein, fiber, calcium, iron, and potassium—plus, they’re loaded with anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant in blue and dark purple foods.
Cooking time for black lentils is a bit longer than some varieties, but still fast enough for a quick meal when you’re pressed for time. Plan on around 30 minutes (40 if you prefer a mushier consistency).
